Thermal Yards uses the Vancouver Landfill as a testing ground to explore the potentials of an undesirable site to host an attractive program. The facility is powered by methane gas generated by the garbage, creating a challenging yet thought-provoking juxtaposition of an unpleasant energy source and a pleasant manner of energy consumption. Taking advantage of the abundance of waste-generated energy, yards and pools of different temperature are created to offer occupants a relaxing and unique spa experience.

Thermal Yards won second place in the Fast+Epp Architectural Engineering Design Competition in 2013.
